Yigit Kale - Industrial Xylem

Industrial Xylem is an urban design project intended to reconnect Albany's (NY) industrial waterfront with the rest of the city, which is currently cut off by a massive highway bridge. The project proposes a collective business model to reestablish the waterfront's connections with the city and its transportation infrastructure. It suggests an innovative idea of creating connections in between factories based on the use of by-products and therefore aims to create a production sequence paralell to the life-cycle of raw materials.
The resulting development groups four existing companies operating in wood industry, and relocates them in two abandoned buildings near the Hudson River.

Industrial Xylem“ ist ein urbanes Designprojekt, das beabsichtigt Albany’s (NY) industrielles Hafengebiet wieder mit dem Rest der City, die gerade abgeschnitten ist durch eine massive Highway-Brücke, zu verbinden.

In diesem Projekt wird ein gemeinsames Geschäftsmodell aufgestellt, um die Verbindung des Flussufers mit der Stadt und ihrem Verkehrfluss wiederherzustellen.

Es schlägt eine innovative Idee vor, Verbindungen zwischen den Fabriken zu schaffen, die auf dem Gebrauch von Nebenerzeugnissen basieren. So soll ein Produktionsablauf parallel zum Lebenszyklus von Rohstoffen geschaffen werden.

Die daraus resultierende Entwicklung fasst vier existierende Unternehmen aus der Holzindustrie zusammen und bringt diese in zwei leerstehenden Gebäuden in der Nähe des Hudson River unter.
